Image
Pierre Gasly and Masashi Yamamoto talked about the major changes coming to Formula 1 after a successful United States Grand Prix for Honda and its engine customer Red Bull. BY  CALEB MILLER OCT 31, 2021 SCUDERIA ALPHA TAURI The automotive world is undergoing dramatic change with the rise of electric vehicles, and the motorsport sphere is also preparing for a more sustainable future. Earlier this month,  Formula 1 declared  it would switch to a synthetic fuel in 2025 that it says will produce zero net carbon-dioxide emissions. Electric racing series have cropped up recently, but F1’s announcement solidifies the sport’s intention to stick with internal combustion, and the decision is finding support among the series’s drivers. At a panel interview at last weekend’s United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, Pierre Gasly—who drives for the  Honda -powered Alpha Tauri team—explained how the change will make F1 more environmentally friendly while maintaining the character...

Tesla Is Being Outsold in China By a $4.5K Electric Car

Tesla   may have the best-selling electric vehicle in the world right now in the form of the Model 3, but in   China , a rival is outselling the Model 3 at an almost two-to-one ratio. It's called the  Hong Guang Mini EV , and one of its major selling points is the fact it only costs $4,500 (or $5,000 with air conditioning). Wuling via PC Mag In October last year, Tesla cut the price of the Model 3 in China  by 8% , meaning it's possible to buy one there for as little as $36,805. The Mini EV uses a 9.2kWh battery offering a range of just 75 miles (120km) and relies on a single electric motor capable of 17.4 horsepower and a top speed of 62mph (100km/h). It can seat four people, but I doubt you'd want to attempt that for a long journey based on how small the Mini EV is. The tiny car is manufactured by state-owned ...

Down And Out In The Big Mango

As a traveler, my worst fear has always been that I'd find myself on some lee shore, far from home, dead broke, with no money, no traveler's checks and useless credit cards. And to top it all no air ticket home or friends to lean on. It's a nightmare that doesn't bear thinking about. It's never happened, but I dread it and to cover such a catastrophe I always travel with an emergency fund of last resort in the form of three gold coins, Canadian Maple Leafs, stashed in my belt. As a writer, I've always been interested in coming across anyone who had experienced such an event. I've met only one. He was sitting on a shop front step some fifty meters from the Nana Skytrain Station on Bangkok's busy Sukhumvit Road: not unusual for a farang in that notorious part of town and he barely registered as I descended the steps to the street. But as I passed by him, my eye caught the crude cardboard sign stating: DESTITUTE NEED MONEY FOR FOOD PLEASE HELP A tin cup st...
